Ways to be green: Food / shopping

  1. Buy local produce, maybe from a local farmers’ market or WI.
  2. Buy fruit and vegetables that are in season in this country. Don’t be fooled by supermarkets calling vegetables “seasonal” when they have been flown in form other countries.
  3. Look at where your food has come from and try to reduce food air miles.
  4. Buy items that carry the Fair Trade logo.
  5. Eat at least one vegetarian or vegan meal each week. Gradually increase this so you reduce your meat consumption.
  6. Eat pork or chicken instead of beef.
  7. If you eat beef try to buy meat from animals that have been grass-fed rather than intensively reared.
  8. Plan meals so you don’t buy more than you need. Use up leftovers from the back of the fridge before they go out of date.
