Learn about the climate emergency

We need to respond to the climate emergency. In the Ipswich Methodist Circuit, we have chosen to work together supporting each other in a concerted campaign in which we balance the need to inform ourselves through active learning, sharing our understanding with others by speaking out, ensuring we make a difference through our actions, and by drawing on the love of God for the ownder of his creation to inspire hope.

Learning

We often learn most by listening to stories of real experience. We are encouraged to listen to stories from other worldwide communities who experience the world and climate change in very different ways to us.

9-week cycle

The climate emergency is so big, we can find it hard to comprehend. We have broken this huge topic into 9 individual topics, and are providing materials for each topic through a 9-week cycle. Each week’s materials describes the topic, explains some of the impact, shares a story from a community that is particularly concerned about this, and suggsets some tangible actions you can take.

A set of posters summarising each of the 9 topics through the cycle is now available for download.

World Environment Day

For nearly 50 years, the 5th June has been marked as World Environment Day. Each year a host city selects a theme that they want to explore in depth. The materials provided offer rich learning. For each week of our campaign, we have selected one of the host cities with a theme closely linked to the topic in that week’s cycle, and provided a brief outline as a taster encouraging you to look further.

Suggested Reading: books and Study Guides

There are many books and study guides available on the environment and climate change. We provide some links, and some recommendations, including reviews prepared by members of our community explaining how they have been helped in their reading. Some of these books are the subject of study groups, often run in conjunction with bible study, encouraging people to meet together and share their discovery.

Links

The web is full of information, and it can be difficult to know where to look to find trustworthy and reliable information. Links to some of the most important and reliable sources on climate change are included.
