Meeting Jesus

Well, I made it! 123miles in 3 days – including the hottest day of the year so far. Our first day of cycling was mainly on the flat with no sight of Hadrian’s wall. However, we made up for both on day 2 – the wall and many hills. Remember when you freewheel down a hill, it is highly likely that there is an equal, on longer, slope going up on the other side!

The trip was part of an organised group of 14 cyclists and we soon found our natural ability. There were two men in the group from Birmingham with fantastic Black Country accents. I’ll call them Cliff and Mike. What was so funny was that on day 2 Cliff asked Kath and I if he could tag along with us, as Mike was pushing hard and fast at the front. (We later found out how they liked to moan – in a friendly way about each other).

As we reached the top of a particularly steep incline in full sun, Cliff exclaimed “I think I might meet Jesus here!” I suspect it was an expression to say how steep the inline had been and how we were all out of puff.

We had a laugh, but it got me thinking about meeting Jesus.

Where do you meet Jesus? Is it just in the tough times? Is it when you have achieved something you thought impossible? Is it along the road you travel?

As I reflect back, I know that Jesus was with me on the flat, as I was able to appreciate the beauty of the scenery. He was with me as we approached our “brew and lunch stops.” He was with me on the uphill as well – it didn’t make the incline any easier, but he was able to say to me, “it’s ok, get off and walk uphill.” Having Jesus in my life doesn’t make the struggles any easier, but I know I have a companion travelling with me.

So, yes, let’s meet Jesus as we travel on life’s ups and downs.
