Another check-up?

I suppose few people look forward to visiting the dentist or the hygienist, and one Christian dentist probably didn’t help as the patient reclined on the couch to see written in bold lettering on the ceiling, “Prepare to meet thy God”.

What I find disappointing is that, despite following all the recommendations on how to clean your teeth correctly, including the necessary equipment (no expense spared), my hygienist usually finds some negative comment and yet another suggestion. Tempting as it may be to switch to another dental practice, I don’t think it would make much difference.

At the end of each day, during my nightly prayer time, I try to recall the events of the day, both to praise God for the many positives and to reflect on any negatives. I am aware that my standard is vastly different to the holy standard of God, and so having reviewed the day, I invariably have to ask God to forgive any sins, known or unknown.

It is encouraging to recall the words from 1 John 1 from verse 7 -But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar, and his word is not in us.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please help us to appreciate and experience what it means to “walk in the light” and so enhance our relationship with you and others. AMEN
