HOW MANY ADVENTS?

I recall reading an article from a few years ago that suggested there are at least 3 Advents.

The first, and probably mostly associated with that word, is this current period in the Church calendar. The second suggestion is the personal Advent when, individually, we invite Jesus into our hearts. Although written to Christians, the book of Revelation, chapter 3, verse 20, was often used (in my younger days) in evangelical meetings. An equally older chorus used as an invitation included the phrase, “Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, come in today, come in to stay.”

The third suggested Advent is known as the Second Coming, and again, words written to Christians found in 1 Corinthians 15, verses 51 to 53,with more details from 1 Thessalonians 4, verses 13 to 18.

So, to conclude, what does Advent mean to you?

Is it just the annual celebration of an event that happened over 2000 years ago?

Is it a reminder that you are included in the whoever of John 3 verse 16?

Is the Second Coming of Jesus a threat or a promise?

Please take time to read the Bible verses quoted. If you are not familiar with them, ask a friend to help you find them.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, in this season of Advent, keep reminding us of the amazing truth that Jesus came down – that we might go up. AMEN
