For many years I resisted the temptation to watch ‘Strictly’. Eventually I was an outsider in so many conversations from October to Christmas, that I took my sister’s advice and began to watch – first on a Saturday evening, then on a Sunday and finally succumbing to watching the spin off ‘It takes Two’ every weekday evening. That’s the equivalent of almost six hours viewing time a week.
The mixture of celebrities ‘going on a journey’ to learn a new skill, inclusivity of people with different skills, backgrounds and abilities, glitter and glitz, conversation and judgement is a winning formula and a reason for the whole family to gather.
To dance is to use one’s body to express feelings and stories – sometimes in accordance with a set formula, sometimes within the discipline of music and other times more spontaneously.
We have a hymn that asks God to teach us to dance to the beat of His heart. To move and act in accordance with His Love – whether with others or alone. Sometimes we need to let go of the restrictions and regulations that hold us back and feel His presence, letting His Spirit empower and embolden us.
‘Teach me to dance to the beat of Your heart,
Teach me to move in the power of Your Spirit,
Teach me to walk in the light of Your Presence,
Teach me to dance to the beat of Your heart.
Teach me to love with your heart of compassion,
Teach me to trust in the word of Your promise,
Teach me to hope in the day of Your coming,
Teach me to dance to the beat of Your heart.
