Thirteen years ago my husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. We booked a holiday in a lodge in a forest near York. The lodges were all situated in a way in which you couldn’t see the next one. Both our sons were able to join us which was amazing.
The walks through the forest were fantastic but the thing which I will never forget is the complete lack of light pollution. The darkness in the lodge at night was a bit scary—-complete blackness. You could hear lots of animal noises during the night and then find the evidence the next morning that they had been very close. Our dog’s nose went into overdrive and she had a very exciting week. The blackness at night revealed the most fantastic sky with millions of stars shining very brightly.
I have been doing bible study on Romans and the second session’s video ended with the example of a diamond shining brightly on a black cloth. This is what prompted the memory of that holiday.
It made me think that even though all around may be in darkness, God’s light is always there. We may not see this light because of life’s challenges but we can be assured that it is there. God’s light never dims and for this we are ever thankful.
