A mask?

In a reading from my Bible app daily reading, a while ago, the writer quoted from a publication called Journal of Food Research that stated, “Blowing out the candles of a birthday cake multiplies the number of bacteria on the frosting (icing) by 1,400 per cent.”

During COVID, there was a lot of debate as to whether or not it was beneficial to wear a mask, for the wearer or the community. There are still a few people wearing masks today. I am not qualified to comment on the benefits of mask-wearing, but I know from experience the danger of being close to a person suffering from a severe cold who should have stayed at home, rather than mixing with a group of people sharing a meal. Yes, I was sitting next to him!

Jesus did say something interesting about a similar danger recorded in Matthew 15:11, “What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth.” James also warns of the dangers associated with the tongue in chapter 3. I find that both these Bible passages come to mind when I see someone wearing a mask.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please remind us of Bible truths even at unexpected times and in unusual ways. AMEN
