You’re not alone

“You’re not alone and you’re not the one in charge. Ask for help when you need it and give help when you can. I think that is how we serve God–and each other and ourselves–in times as dark as these.”

These are words from a book I’m reading at the minute. My friend Jean loaned it to me and told me how much she had enjoyed reading it. It’s called “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. It’s about the very different lives of two sisters during the 2nd World War and is set in war-torn France. It’s a story about women in the war and I am finding it fascinating. In fact, I find myself resenting having to stop reading it to make a meal or do some shopping or dare I say do “church business.”

It’s set so long ago and the living conditions were terrible but it is happening in so many places today. The hunger, death, injuries and unfairness of war are apparent every day.

Sometimes it’s really hard to remember the words written at the beginning of this article. We are not in charge but we can help, even in little ways and in so doing we can help ourselves and serve God.

Thank You Father that you are always in charge. We ask You for strength to cope in dark times and give us the ability to help others. We pray this prayer in the assurance that you hear it and in your time we will be answered.
