YOU

It was one Christmas Eve, in the late 1990’s, that I returned home from work to visit an aged aunt living in the annexe of our house. As I entered her lounge, I was aware that she was listening to a Christmas carol concert from Cambridge, though not the famous King’s College.

Shortly after my arrival, there was a brief sermon, a part of which has remained with me over these years. The text was from Luke 2 verse 11. Today in the town of David, a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

The speaker, based on my recollection, said, “The miracle was not that the Saviour has been born today. Or that he is the Messiah, the Lord. Rather, the miracle is that the Saviour has been BORN TO YOU.”

One of my favourite aspects of Christmas is visiting church and spending up to an hour or so putting everything else aside and concentrating on what has been described as ”The reason for the season”, or perhaps, better described as the Christ of Christmas. I admit there is much that I enjoy about Christmas Day, but that special time just makes me appreciate what Christ-mas is all about.

I hope that all readers of TFTD, whatever their personal circumstances, will enjoy a few moments to appreciate that the Saviour has been born to YOU.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please help us to get our priorities right over this Christmas period, as we give You our thanks for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. AMEN
