Worship and service

Last week we thought about praise and thanksgiving – noisy activities – using our mouth and vocal cords. Worship is quieter – it’s about our hearts – our attitude. Using our ears to listen to who God is and having that change our attitude. Working on us from the inside out. Proper worship proceeds service.

Looking at Isaiah 6, he describes his vision of the Throne of God, above it he saw the seraphim – each had six wings: with one pair the covered their faces, with the second pair they covered their feet and with the third pair they flew. Some Bible scholars have suggested that two pairs are given to worship (covering faces and feet) and one pair to service (flying). Thus, worship comes before service and is twice as important. The picture of worship here is covering one’s face and body – bowing low, bending the head – a picture of our spirits and how we should approach God. That is worship – a heart bowed low in God’s presence.

Prayer – O God, Hallowed be Thy Name. Help us in our churches and circuit to worship You in Spirit and in truth wholeheartedly and serve our communities with love. Thank You that we can worship without fear, but we pray not to be complacent as we know there are areas in the world where this isn’t so.

Guide us into meaningful service for You. We are aware that often that’s all the community sees of You through our service to You. May we make the best use of opportunities that come our way – help us to manufacture situations and circumstances to show Your love.

Guide us away from doing what we’ve always done if You have new plans for the future. We pray especially for our churches in Capel, Holbrook, Brantham, Chelmondiston, Elmsett and Bramford. Bless their worship and service.  Amen
