Wandering sheep

I just happened to gaze out of the window and there were two (very well endowed) rams sauntering down our drive. My husband and I managed to corral them into the back field whilst I rang their owner. (The farmer next door, whose field they normally graze on, had left the gate open by mistake).

These two sheep were in fact very docile and seemed to enjoy gently head butting my legs or kicking me! They wandered around grazing on the grass and fortunately not nibbling the trees my husband has patiently grown from seed.

A verse from Isaiah springs to mind… “We’re all, like sheep who wandered off and got lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong on him.” (The Message)

Those sheep wandered off, thought they could go exploring, try pastures new. Fortunately, their owner was able to come and take them back to the field in which they belonged. The sheep recognised her, and happily went off with her back to their field

We at times feel we know what is best and wander off, get lost, do our own thing. But Jesus is able to gently but confidently bring us back into the fold. Jesus came to take on all our sins, and we can gratefully walk with him, the Good Shepherd, thankful for all he has done to keep us on the right path.
