The Beauty of Jesus : memories and reflections by Gypsy Smith
2nd ed., Epworth Press, 1933 208 pages £15 from Eden Bookshop, Cambridge
Gypsy Smith MBE (1860-1947) preached the gospel to thousands on five continents for 70 years.
This book is full of stories, anecdotes and memories about the many missions he led in America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa as well as the UK from 1880 into the first half of the twentieth century.
He spent several years ministering to British troops in France during the First World War.
He was clearly a powerful preacher, blessed by the Holy Spirit, with an evangelistic message many years before Billy Graham came on the scene. He was such a blessing to many who were converted by the Holy Spirit that his name is still remembered by those who were influenced by his total commitment to the saving power of the gospel and his winsome ability to persuade people to take up the cross and follow Jesus.
There is a monument to Gypsy Smith at Mill Plain in Epping Forest.
