SLOW ME DOWN, LORD

I have been spending time sorting out things on my desk and came across this meditation which I thought I would share with you.

“Slow me down, Lord:

Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind

Steady my hurried pace with a vision of the eternal reach of time.

Give me,

Amidst the confusion of my day, the calmness of the everlasting hills,

Break the tensions of my nerves and muscles with the soothing music of the singing streams

That live in my memory.

Help me to know,

The magical restoring power of sleep.

Of taking minute vacations …….

Of slowing down to look at a flower,

To chat with a friend, to pat a dog,

To read a few lines from a good book.

Remind me each day of the fable of the hare and tortoise,

That I may know that the race is not always to the swift

That there is more to life than measuring speed.”

It is something I know I need to remember as many people should do in this busy world we live in where everything seems to be wanted yesterday.  Do we really need to cram everything into today when there is another day tomorrow?

Remember Jesus had to get away from the crowds who followed him everywhere for his healing touch and his teaching.  He went up into the hills.  We cannot always do that, but we can sit indoors or in the garden and quietly appreciate what is around us and pray in thanksgiving to God.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, help me to slow down, appreciate all around me and give thanks to you for all you have given us.  Amen
