Over the last couple of weeks, I seem to have been spending quite a bit of time “sorting out ” wardrobes and cupboards. There are two reasons for this: 1: I’m looking for good items for the bric-a-brac table at the McMillan Coffee Morning and 2: I’m hoping that my son will take a lot of his belongings, which I’ve been storing, to his new house.
On Tuesday I brought two big boxes out from under our stairs. I was determined to be ruthless and either pass on or recycle most of the items. My husband got in on the act and we ended up discarding very little. It was so emotional reading our sons’ school books and stories which they had written when they were 5 or six. Old photos were poured over and frequently either Drew or I said, “Do you remember when ….”
In the end I found a few items for the bric-a-brac and then the boxes were put away for the sons to take at some stage. It’s so hard to get rid of items which tug at your heart.
It’s so difficult to let go of things in our lives which hold us back. Are you experiencing times when you wish you could just forget an episode in your past life. It could be physical or mental trauma. It’s at times like this where we need a friend to help. We are blessed to have a true friend in our Lord.
Joshua 1 v 9 says, “Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
