Return to the Lord

What kind of a God is the God portrayed in the Old Testament?

In Exodus chapter 34, we read that Moses was told by God to prepare two stone tablets to replace those which Moses shattered following the incident with the Golden Calf.

On the mountain top, when Moses presented the Almighty with two new stone tablets, the record tells us that ‘the Lord passed by in front of him [Moses] and proclaimed,” The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin yet he will by no means leave the guilty unpunished…”

How many attributes/characteristics of God can you see there?

Similarly, in Joel chapter 2 verse 13, we read “Now return to the Lord your God for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and relenting of evil. Who knows whether he will not turn and relent and leave a blessing behind him…”?

The grace of God, well known from the New Testament Scripture, is notably foreseen in the Old Testament as well.
