Joan’s Jottings – July

Dear Siblings in Christ,

Summer is upon us. I hope that you have some plans to be able to enjoy the next couple of months after a difficult winter and spring. As I sit in my office writing this, the sliding door to my back garden is open and I can hear the birds calling to one another. What sign that summer has arrived do you enjoy the most?

I found some quotes about summer for you to ponder:

“We cannot stop the winter or the summer from coming. We cannot stop the spring or the fall or make them other than they are. They are gifts from the universe that we cannot refuse. But we can choose what we will contribute to life when each arrives.” – Gary Zukav

“When the sun is shining, I can do anything; no mountain is too high, no trouble too difficult to overcome.” – Wilma Rudolph

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” – John Steinbeck

“I love how summer just wraps its arms around you like a warm blanket.” – Kellie Elmore

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” As COVID restrictions are lifted, and we come into the season of Stage 4, may you be filled with a new appreciation for all the things that we have been unable to do for so long.  For visits from family and friends, for being able to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with a neighbour, for the giving and receiving of a hug.  It will not be too long before we can once again sing at our worship services. What a joyous day that will be.

The July issue of our joint magazine for the three churches has been published. Read it here.

The joint Get Together & BBQ that we had planned for our three churches for 17th July has been postponed to 28th August. It will be in the garden at the rear of Landseer Road Methodist Church.

Our new study group on A Methodist Way of Life begins on Thursday 22nd July from Noon to 1.30 p.m. in-person at Museum Street. Members from all three churches are invited to come. Bring your lunch with you to eat as we talk. We will begin the first session by celebrating Holy Communion. A Methodist Way of Life provides a set of commitments and practices that encourage and equip people to better live a Christian life through Worship, Learning & Caring, Service, and Evangelism. The study book is free and will be given out at the group. Find out more here.
