Like a mustard seed

Then Jesus said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? How can I illustrate it? It is like a tiny mustard seed that a man planted in a garden; it grows and becomes a tree and the birds make nests in the branches.”  Luke 13 v18-19.

Recently we have just finished the 10 weeks of Tuesday Tunes in Felixstowe Methodist Church at Trinity. They have been the most amazing occasions with a packed church each time. The audience, volunteers and musicians have really enjoyed a warm, safe space, wonderful entertainment and plenty of good home baking to eat. Lonely people have enjoyed the company of others and a lot of money has been raised for the church and for the Basic Food Bank.

Thanks must go to Anne and Ian Clarke for the time and effort they put into making Tuesday Tunes so successful. It was their idea over three years ago to open the church for people to come into where they could relax, enjoy something to eat and listen to some background music. On the first day there were about 30 folk. We now have an average of 112 and on one Tuesday we had 142 visitors with some travelling quite a distance to attend.

The parable of the mustard seed springs to mind when thinking about Tuesday Tunes. A small seed was planted and has grown over three years to become a very strong tree with spreading branches and leaves. I imagine all the people attending as birds sitting on these branches and then flying away to tell their friends about this happy place.

We are encouraged all the time to change how we “do church” and I think this is a very positive step along this path.

Thank You Lord for opportunities to make new friends and to strengthen the relationships with old ones. Thank You for the talents and skills given to us to enable us to help others.
