“Knit together in love”

“Knit together in love”  Colossians 2 : 2

Knit together is a project to involve those who love to knit from each of the 22 circuit churches to produce a knitted square, to be sewn together to depict the diversity and unity of the circuit. We would like to produce at least 1 blanket which includes 1 square from each of the 22 churches in the circuit. Hopefully we will be able to produce more blankets than the 1 !

Christine O’Neill has produced a first draft knit of the circuit logo which will be included in the first blanket with squares from each church to make up the 24 squares of the blanket. Final version will be uploaded later 🙂

Once the blanket / blankets have been finished we would like to send them around all the churches in the circuit and then finally they would be donated to the Norwood Methodist home.

Guidance for Knitting Squares for the Church Blanket:

Completed squares need to be 12 inches by 12 inches (30 cm by 30 cm)

Using DK yarn and 4mm needles, cast on 60 sts and work 86 rows. At least, that’s what worked for me, however everyone knits differently and feel free to adjust needles or number of stitches/rows to make the measurements right.

Incorporate patterns and colours that symbolise something about your particular church.  These can be as simple (eg all blue to represent peace) or as complicated (eg knitted in pictures of the fruits of the Spirit)  as you like. You could embroider over a plain knitted square, or knit different colours in the work. You might want to incorporate the logo, or pictures from your village sign, or the initials of your church in your work. You could use crosses, crowns, sheep, or any other images. Use different stitches to add texture.  If four of you want to get involved, you could each do a 6″ x 6” square and sew them together into a 12” x 12” square.  If we get more squares than we need – no problem -we will make more blankets!!!

Please send completed squares in by the end of September – Email or phone Christine for the address ?
