Joan’s Jottings for 6th July

Dear Siblings in Christ,

Those that came together last week for a faith and racism discussion have decided to do a book study.  We will be reading and discussing a book by a black author called Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race. The author’s name is Reni Eddo-Lodge and she is a London based, award winning author and journalist. The book is on the Sunday Time’s Best Seller list and Eddo-Lodge is the first black British author to top UK’s best-seller list since the official book chart was launched in 1998. The first session will be by Zoom on Thursday 9th July at 10.30 a.m. to Noon. Contact Rev. Joan Pell for access details. We will then decide on a future meeting schedule. If you wish to attend, but cannot make that time, then contact me. You do not need the book for the first session. You can purchase the book in hardback, paperback or eBook from a number of online booksellers (such as Hive) and additionally in kindle or audio format from amazon. This is open to anyone from around the circuit, so please invite your friends to join us. These are important and difficult and uncomfortable discussions, but the necessary first step towards advocacy and justice is through learning. Let us learn together. Come and join us! Full details here.

You are all invited to join our weekly virtual coffee morning by Zoom on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Bring your own drink!   Contact Rev. Joan Pell for access details. You can join late or leave early as you need to.

The Methodist Conference has concluded. You can find all the video recordings and papers and daily records linked from this page on our circuit website.  Please note that the connexion will be removing the recordings after 30 days (1st August).

This year marks 60 years since Linda Rachel started to attend Landseer Road. Read her tribute to the person who introduced her to the church and their ensuing 60 years of friendship.

The Summer 2020 issue of the connexion magazine is out now illustrating how local churches have prevailed during the COVID-19 lockdown to sing a new song. Find it here. Please note that only one copy is being sent to each address, so local churches will not be distributing printed copies of this issue.

On 30th June, the Ipswich Circuit posted our 100th Thought of the Day since starting at the beginning of lock-down. As the Methodistic Facebook post said: We hope you enjoy reading the snippets that are sent out on the website and around the circuit every morning. We want to thank everyone who has contributed so far and it has been great to read such a wide variety of messages from so many different people. We do want this to continue to bring hope, inspiration, discussion, etc so if you have any thing you would like to contribute please submit them here. We value all your input into thought for the day. I will leave you with a short thought from Romans 12:12, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer”

Today’s Methodist chuckle:

I am keeping you in my prayers. May God’s peace be with you all,
In Christ
