Joan’s Jottings for 20th September

Dear Siblings in Christ,

Today’s online service is available here.  Andrew Sankey is the preacher for this online worship service. His message is based on Paul’s words to the Philippians in chapter 1 verses 21-30 about Living a Life Worthy of the Gospel and Christian hope.

It’s Harvest Time! We will be supporting FIND at our church Harvest Festivals this year. If you are attending worship, you are invited to bring non-perishable food items on the appropriate Sunday.  If you are attending remotely, then please consider making a monetary donation to FIND. Harvest Festivals for the services for which I am responsible are:

  • Sunday 20th September – Landseer Road
  • Sunday 27th September – Museum Street
  • Sunday 4th October – Chantry AND Online

Landseer Road has their first in-person service today at 11 a.m. when we will celebrate Harvest Festival and Holy Communion.

Museum Street is worshipping in-person this morning at 10.45 a.m. with David Welbourn preaching.

Chantry is worshipping in-person this morning at 9.30 a.m. with worship led by Diana Sawyer.

The autumn issue of the District Magazine, the Grapevine, was published this week. It is full of inspirational stories about God’s work during the lockdown from around the circuit. I encourage you to take the time to sit down and read it. Our Ipswich Circuit was featured in a 2-page article written by lay worker Neil Hepplethwaite. .

The circuit is hiring for a new lay worker for 10 hours a week based at Knodishall Methodist Church but to work at Kelsale, Knodishall and Peasenhall Methodist Churches, to support the Minister and Pastoral Visitors. Please pass the word to anyone whom you think might be interested. Details here.

For today’s chuckle we have a new song for ministers and tech teams, which is pretty accurate! The tune is Lasst uns erfreuen which you know best as the tune for All Creatures of Our God and King.

The technology did fail for us last week. There was a several minutes silence in the middle of Rev. Diane Smith’s sermon on the online worship video. Diane’s recording was fine, something went wrong at our end, although there were no changes to the software that Adrian was using and he did what he usually does. It remains a mystery! Last week’s video was fixed, and I pray that you can hear the upcoming weeks’ recordings without the sound dropping out.

I am keeping you in my prayers. May God’s peace be with you all,
In Christ
–Pastor Joan
