Joan’s Jottings for 16th August

Dear Siblings in Christ,

Today’s service is available online. Scripture is Matthew 15:21-28. This is the third in the five-week series living outside the box entitled passing the crumbs. We try to box God in, but God is always breaking out of the box and shattering our understandings of life in God’s kingdom. In today’s scripture, Jesus has put himself in a box. It takes a voice from an outsider to challenge his viewpoint. Come and join us online as we see how Jesus’ box is expanded.

We are also worshipping in-person this morning at Museum Street Methodist Church at 10.45 a.m. As I am leading it, this will have the same liturgy, scripture and sermon as the online service, but different music.  Please arrive after 10.30 a.m. and wear a face covering. You might want to bring a bottle of water as there are no refreshments. And if you struggle to read the screen, then bring a hymnal or ask to borrow one.

This afternoon, Landseer Road Methodist Church will be gathering in the church garden at 2 p.m. Bring your own refreshments and if you are driving, please bring a chair. Please note that the toilets are not yet open – we are deep cleaning later this week.

Next Sunday 23rd August, worship will begin again at Chantry Methodist Church at 9.30 a.m. The leaders are working hard to make sure this is as safe as it can be.

Coffee by Zoom is meeting as usual on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. and the Book Study by Zoom on Thursday morning at 10.30 a.m. to talk about Chapter 5. Contact me for access.

I thought you might appreciate this sign on a fence in the Yorkshire Dales style explaining what 2 meters looks like:

I am keeping you in my prayers. May God’s peace be with you all,
In Christ
