Integrity

The following is an extract from a Facebook post a few days ago:

“When Japan’s electronic toll collection system unexpectedly failed for 38 hours, toll gates were opened to allow free passage. In most countries, that might have meant a financial loss that no one would recover — but not in Japan. After the issue was fixed, more than 24,000 drivers voluntarily paid their tolls online, even though they could have easily avoided doing so. In a world often dominated by shortcuts and loopholes, Japan’s drivers reminded everyone that integrity isn’t about being watched — it’s about doing what’s right, even when no one’s looking”.

The stories of Hagar in Genesis, Achan in Joshua, and Ananias and Sapphira in Acts are just three examples to remind us that God sees us (Genesis 16:13) whatever we may be doing. Years ago, we were encouraged to ask What would Jesus do? But reading the story of 24,000 honest drivers, I found myself asking, What would I do?

In John 1 verse 48 Nathaniel asks “How do you know me?” and Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree, before Philip called you”. The knowledge that our God knows everything about us might make us fearful or at peace.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, may our relationship with you enable us to be honest in all areas of our lives. AMEN
