We often look for meaning in the events of our lives. As people of faith, we believe God’s Spirit is always with us, comforting, guiding, and reminding us we are not alone.
Last month, I had to travel to Thetford for a meeting. During the journey, my mind was filled with a mix of thoughts. Some were joyful and exciting, while others were disappointing or lonely. I was thinking about good memories, as well as things that hadn’t gone the way I had hoped.
In the middle of all those emotions, one simple but powerful thought came to me:
“Whatever your situation is right now, remember—you are still breathing.”
Yes, you are breathing.
And as soon as that thought came, a song started playing in my car. It began with the words:
“God’s not finished with me yet.”
I clubbed both thoughts together and began to reflect:
“If you are still breathing, then God’s not finished with you yet.”
Maybe you are reading this and feeling unsure about the next step in your life.
Maybe you’re struggling to find direction or hope.
Whatever you’re facing, remember this:
If you are still breathing, God is not finished with you.
The apostle Paul writes in Philippians 1:6:
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
And in the words of Russell Kelfer’s poem:
You are who you are for a reason,
You’ve been formed by the Master’s rod.
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God.
So, take a deep breath today. Let it remind you that you are still here for a reason. God is not finished with you yet. Amen.
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for the gift of this new day. Thank you that I am still breathing.
Sometimes life feels hard, and I don’t always understand what’s happening. But I believe you are with me.
Please help me to trust that you are not finished with me. Give me hope, strength, and peace today. Help me to remember that I am loved and I have a purpose. Amen.
