FAITHFUL GOD

Listening to a Christian radio station, the hymn Great is Thy faithfulness was followed by Lord, I come before Your throne of grace, which includes the phrase, What a faithful God have I.

It was an apt reminder that this week, my wife and I celebrate our 61st wedding anniversary. As we look back to that day in 1965, neither of us probably envisioned anything beyond the first few years together. We were blessed with Christian parents and a Christian wedding, and I am grateful to God that I can still recall the four headings that our “Christian wedding official” shared with us.

An old hymn includes the words, “The mistakes of my life have been many”, and one of the results of a good memory is that all too often the mistakes are recalled. But as my Dad was apt to say, “God has blessed us not because of who we are but in spite of who we are.”

I often recall a lady, at the start of a prayer meeting, saying, “We often come to God with our shopping list prayers. May I suggest we spend the first 10 mins in praising and thanking God?”  I still find that a challenging comment and would encourage readers to spend time doing so, especially if you don’t already!

Psalm 30, verse 4 (taken out of context) “Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.”  May that be true for us all

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please encourage within us a spirit of thankfulness as we appreciate Who you are and what You are doing in our lives and our world. AMEN
