For many years, my wife and I have been supporters of a Christian organisation called Medical Missionary News (https://mmn.uk.com), and for a few years have used their Prayer Card as part of our breakfast readings. It uses the same wording for each day of the week, and I thought for seven TFTD’s, I would quote the daily request and add something about how it caused me to reflect on at least part of the prayer.
Monday’s prayer is for MISSION HOSPITALS AND CLINICS.
“Pray that the doctors and nurses at these hospitals will treat the patients they see with love and compassion and have wisdom in knowing how to treat them with the limited resources available. There are many opportunities to share the love of Jesus with them, either one-to-one, in consultation, through visits or through the public sharing of the gospel to those waiting to be seen.”
The phrase “limited resources” is a reminder of how blessed we are in the UK and a cause for gratitude.
A church attender was invited to take on an important local Civic appointment and when this was announced at a Sunday service, one person commented, “We trust that he will be able to demonstrate his Christian faith if he is appointed”, to which the response was, “I hope I demonstrate my Christian faith whatever I am doing!” I found that quote challenging, and as the Christian doctors working abroad need our prayer support, so may we demonstrate the love of Jesus.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, whatever our “calling” or current responsibilities, may we, in the words of the apostle Paul, “make the teaching about God our Saviour, attractive” AMEN
