It is always important to ask ourselves this question, after a time of catastrophe, adventure, death of someone who was caring for you or a high drama, There are many people who would want to be back to their roots after a long time away like the prodigal son in the Bible. I am writing this message after listening to the BBC news that there is agreement of ceasefire between Isreal and Hamas and that people are celebrating to go back home. I was looking at the pictures of what they are calling home that its all ruins and ashes. Will life be the same again?
It is true that the drama may be over, the terrors may be over, the war may be over but they left their mark: their adventure has changed them they are not as they were before, nor can their life be the same.
Building on what has been destroyed would not be easy, removing the rubble and then start the reconstruction may not be any easy task for anyone.
The life and ministry of Jesus Christ was full of excitement and joy as the disciples would totally depend on Jesus. The disciples never thought of a better life without Jesus. They thought of a Messiah who was going to restore paradise on earth as he would overcome the world systems of social injustice and greed. They were looking for a political figure. When Jesus died, they got overwhelmed and confused about what do and where to go. How could a Messiah die and leave us alone they asked.
They gathered in the upper room with great despair and anticipation hoping for a new beginning. A new dispensation came to them. They were appointed apostles but this time with Jesus in their hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit. This would sound like everything had come back to normal after the horrors of Good Friday and the empty tomb experience. The Passover week had gone. But it was never the same for the disciples even after his ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit. They went through persecution and all sorts of suffering but they overcome evil by good through the power of the Holy Spirit. They did not lose their faith in Jesus Christ because of the trails and temptations.
Will life be back to normal when everything seems to have been lost? With God all things are possible. God creates things out nothing and he is the same yesterday, today and forever. Let us pray to God for a world of peace and justice for all. Jesus is the hope of the world let us surrender our lives to him, he will make new beginnings for all the nations.
