War is never far from our minds
Especially at this particular time
Eleven ‘o clock on the eleventh of November
We shall Remember
When men bid farewell to a wife
Knowing it could be the end of life
Women carried on the men’s work
Digging air-raid shelters in the dirt
While men fought in the trenches
Women repaired cattle fences
Milked cows and sowed seeds
Drove tractors and ploughed fields
Factories hired girls and women
They showed the way to earn a living
And kept the home fires burning
For the men that would be returning
So, for all women’ as well as men
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM
