Walking

Thought for the day – Monday 1st June 2020

Things I like to do….

This is a series of “Thoughts for the day” using four of my hobbies, all of which I have been fortunate enough to continue despite the Covid-19 lockdown. They all give me the opportunity to reflect and ponder on my faith.

Psalm 121 (NIV)

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
 where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
 the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
 nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
 he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

When I reach the summit of a mountain like this one in the photo, my eyes turn to the heavens and I can do nothing but praise my Lord. I will have brought various equipment with me including sturdy walking boots, a map, rain and wind protection, food and drink supplies and of course my camera.

Walking boots help protect my feet, a map shows me the path I must travel to get to the top, my jacket will keep me warm and dry and the food will give me energy.

God is our protector, he will not let our feet stumble, he guides us on the correct path and shields us in the storms of life. God provides for all our needs sustaining us, giving us encouragement and stamina to keep going even when the clouds descend and we cannot see our way. For when we reach the summit of our faith, what a spectacular view we will see!!

Prayer
Loving Lord, who created the heavens and the earth, the mountain tops and the babbling brook, you protect us day and night, and lead us on the path towards you. Nothing diverts or deters you in protecting us. Forgive us when we stray from the right path and bring us back to the mountain top view to sing our praises to you.
AMEN
