We recently held a “Vision Day” at Elmsett. It has been a long time in the preparation – the first suggestion that we hold such an event was over 5 years ago! We also received prompting and reminding along the way.
Our opening questions included, Why? What? How?
A common theme that came through was the desire for inspiration and reinvigoration.
As the morning progressed the conversations were more relaxed and energised.
We came away with a sense of encouragement and a commitment to move our ideas into plans and hopefully actions.
The bible reading for today is from Isaiah 49:1-7, where Isaiah foretells the coming of the servant, the Messiah, who will not only bring a light to Israel, but to all nations. God had a plan from the beginning.
This links in with our vision in a small Suffolk village. He has plans for us, and he can use us to bring a light into our local communities.
Jesus came to shine a light to all the world. We are called to shine a light where we can.
One of the things we decided on our “Vision Day,” was that it is important to do one or two things, rather than try and take on lots of ideas, and do them well. Not all ideas will be successful, and that is OK. The importance is to try.
God calls us to be a light in our communities, to connect with people, to build relationships and show, through how we live, the encouragement and joy that knowing Jesus in our lives brings.
Prayer: Jesus, you came to shine a light into the world. Help us to catch that mission to shine a light to those around us, to make those connections and demonstrate through our lives, what joy can be found in following you. Amen
