I had never heard of the Greenland Shark until I read the book “The Golden Mole “They are the planet’s oldest vertebrate and quite recently scientists have discovered just how old. Some may live up to 500 years old. They live deep-down and secret lives preferring the bottom of the ocean where it is cold and dark. This, of course, makes it extremely difficult to learn much about their habits so they may be endangered or there may be thousands.
Imagine if you were alive 500 years ago. We would be walking a lot more or if we were lucky travelling on horseback. We would be cooking over open fires (no electricity). Extended family groups would be living together instead of in separate houses. Working conditions would probably have been dreadful. Think of all the discoveries made over the last 500 years! New medicines, vaccinations, communications, travel and so the list goes on.
I know I would not like to live for that length of time but then I’m not a Greenland Shark.
Thank you, Lord, that all your creatures have a place on this earth. Many may still be waiting to be discovered. Thank you that as we live in this current age You may have many transformations and revelations to come. Fill us, Lord, with hope for our future and the assurance of your love for all.
