The Father dvd, 2021 with Anthony Hopkins 94 minutes £6.99
This film is a powerful and disturbing portrayal of the relationship between a daughter and her father.
It is a study of the growing onset of dementia in an old man although the word never appears in the dialogue.
Powerful for its narrow, concentrated focus (there are no sub-plots) and small cast – just two principal actors with a handful of minor characters.
The film is entirely descriptive; it doesn’t preach, it doesn’t need to for the action (which is just dialogue), is sufficient to speak for itself.
Little wonder the lead actor |(Anthony Hopkins) won an Academy Award and many other awards.
His acting is superb.
How the world is confusing to someone losing their grip on reality is vividly and effectively portrayed in this film.
