Like numerous other people I attended the ABBA show at the weekend. I found it amazing and actually had to keep reminding myself that these “people” on stage were not real. My eyes were telling me one thing but my brain was telling me something else. I had a wonderful time, made even more special as I was sharing this time with my son and one of his friends. Unfortunately, his friend’s wife didn’t make it as she had picked up the tummy bug which their little daughter had had the previous week.
One of my favourite songs by Abba is “Thank you for the music.” The words made me really think about the importance of our worship songs in our Christian life. Charles Wesley being one of the most famous composers and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” being a great favourite. How many times will we sing this or hear it over the next few weeks?
The chorus of the Abba song says,
“Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing,
thanks for all the joy they’re bringing.”
Music, in all its many genres, may bring comfort and joy to so many people. It can help to stave off loneliness and lift the spirits of those with anxiety.
So, Thank You Lord for giving people the wonderful talent of song-writing and for all the joy we get from singing or just listening to the music.
