I am waiting for an appointment at the Eye Clinic. Having already had cataracts removed from both eyes, I find that one has clouded over and as the weeks and months have gone by it has got much worse and now I can only see vague images with that eye. Thankfully the other eye is very clear but is affected by the cloudiness in the other. The situation has reminded me of something I came across when I recently began to tidy and clear my office.
Spiritual sight test.
In less than 30 seconds, name ten things you want to thank God for.
You’re going through a tough time: do you turn to God and ask for His help, or do you turn to others first, turning away from Him?
Things are going well for you at the moment: do you become self-reliant, thinking that you don’t need God, or do you thank Him for all the good things He gives you.
How many times this week have you shown God’s love to the person who really, really annoys you?
How often have you spoken to your friends about God this month?
Have you managed to resist all the temptations that have come your way this week? (What temptations?)
Think about Jesus and what He did for you through His life, death and resurrection: what thoughts and emotions does it stir within you?
Have you read something in the Bible this month which has really encouraged or challenged you and changed how you live your life?
Would you say you are following God more closely now than you were last year?
Prayer. Father God, you are like a big light – of love and warmth and colour. We place all that is important to us before You, because we know that Your love surrounds us for ever. Open our eyes and help us to draw ever closer to you each day, whatever is going on in our lives, and love you more and more. Amen
