We have been blessed with the gift of a life size eagle at Elmsett Methodist Church. The girls in our Girls Friendship Club (GFC) have been working over the last few weeks on this beautiful and majestic bird. It is now soaring above our heads as we worship on a Sunday morning.
This reminded me of one of my favourite verses from the bible, Isaiah 40:31, “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
A few years ago, I was at Spring Harvest and decided to join a workshop entitled “active prayer.” I should have realised, the clue was in the title. We were invited to take a handful of lollipop sticks and either write a word, a phrase, or draw an image. We were then challenged to go out onto the site, in pairs, and use the lolly sticks as prayer pointers with the people we came across. I was with a lady I had never met before and off we set. Everyone we met was open to prayer, and we even had people offering to pray for us! We were down to our last stick and I met a young mum sitting on her own in the children’s play area, her children, (there were about 3 or 4 children), were playing and she was sat looking somewhat hassled. We explained who we were and handed her our last stick, “you will soar on wings like eagles.”
“That’s just what I needed today,” she said as we prayed with her.
Simple actions, giving her hope and strength.
This verse from Isaiah doesn’t tell us life is going to be easy, however it does tell us that if we put our trust in God then we can soar above life’s difficulties. If we put our hope in God then we will be able to run the race set before us, and travel along the road that He lays out before us.
