Sister Religions ? DVD Review

Sister religions ? dvd Hatikvah Films, 2014 £9.99 90 minutes

Using the expertise of three Christian leaders – Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali, Rev Dr Mark Durie and
Elizabeth Kendal – Kel Richards, the religious affairs editor for an Australian radio channel, and
Stephen Briggs probe in some depth what similarities and differences there are between Judaism,
Islam and Christianity.

The emphasis is to explore what Islam really teaches in contrast to Christianity in particular and to
Judaism rather less so.

The interview with Elizabeth Kendal is concerned with the persecuted church on a global scale.
The results are very revealing and their answers to the interviewer’s questions are both illuminating
and instructive for Bishop Michael and Dr Durie have clearly immersed themselves in the study of
Islam from original sources.

Kel Richards manages to elicit aspects of the practice of Islam that need to be widely shared.
Altogether, this dvd in 5 programmes succeeds in giving clear understanding and insight into key
aspects of the nature and practice of Islam in relation to other faiths as well as to some of the
essential differences with Judaism and Christianity.

This is a worthwhile introduction to a topically pressing theme and that not just in respect of
interfaith dialogue, but perhaps more importantly, in relation to the presence of Islam in
international affairs.
