John 1 v 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
How many lights did you have shining over the Christmas period? I looked round my house and was quite surprised at all the different lights: lights on the tree, lamps, t-lights, candles, solar lights in the garden, battery lights in some decorations and so the list goes on.
A single candle lit in church as a prayer throws out a flickering light. As Christians we have been lighting our Advent candles over the last few weeks remembering how over two thousand years ago Christ was born the light of the world. In his light there is remembrance, celebration, sharing and the comfort of God’s love.
If we live according to the clear light of God’s Word, God will dispel the darkness and others will be attracted to the Light.
On this New Year’s Eve may I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy 2023. Tomorrow I will be a year older. I might need a fire extinguisher handy if the full number of candles are put on the cake.
