Number your days

The thought for the Day is from Psalm 90 v 12.
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom

A high school teacher in Los Angeles had a unique way of stimulating her students to think. From time to time she would write brief messages on the chalkboard that were unrelated to their current studies.

One morning, the students found the number 25,550 written on the board. One pupil finally raised his hand and asked the teacher why that particular number was there. She explained that 25,550 represented the number of days in the life of a person who lives to be 70. The teacher was trying to emphasize life’s brevity and the value of each day.

It’s important that we make the most of our opportunities to honour God, serve others and proclaim Christ. Let’s ask God to “teach us to number our days” so we will spend them wisely!

Don’t just spend time; invest it.”

It’s quite scary to think about this number. On one hand 70 years seem to be a long time but when expressed as 25,550 days it seems to be short.

The over 70’s were the first to be told to isolate during the pandemic, much to the annoyance of many active elderly people! But think about all the over 70’s who did amazing things, supported others and carried on living their lives wisely and caring about the welfare of others.

We thank God that we have many who are well past their 25,550 days and are continuing to use their days to show His love and wisdom to the younger ones.

Let’s pray for every day opportunities to share how Christian faith makes a difference and that the hope found in Christ will lead to an increasing openness to the good news for many.
