Never Insignificant In the eyes of God.

Luke 12:6-8 ‘Five sparrows are sold for just two pennies, but God doesn’t forget one of them. Even the hairs on your heard are counted. So don’t be afraid, you are worth much more than many sparrows.’

In a small, remote Mutenherwa village in Zimbabwe, there lived a young boy named Saul. Surrounded by vast landscapes and sounds of nature, Saul spent his childhood observing the world around him. He noticed sparrows flitting about, seemingly insignificant yet full of life. His grandmother Francisca often shared stories of God’ s love, reminding him that ‘not a single sparrow is forgotten by God. These stories became part of Saul’s ministerial formation and foundation of his faith.

Saul felt a calling to ministry. Despite limited resources and opportunities, he dedicated himself to studying the scriptures and serving his community. The villagers often saw him tending to the needs of the sick and offering words of encouragement.

Saul’s passion for God was evident, and he nurtured a deep understanding of his worth being more than a sparrow in the eyes of the Creator. One evening, at St Andrews Hall, filling station ministry service, Saul spoke about his journey from Zimbabwe to the UK. His voice trembled with emotion as he shared how God’s love had transformed his life.

He reminded everyone who was listening to his sermon that just as God numbered the hairs on their heads, He also knew their dreams, their significance in His kingdom. Saul as he continued with ministry, never forgot his roots- reflecting the love of God he first learned as a boy amidst the sparrows in his village, Saul is running a community garden project for the poor and marginalized community in Mutenherwa village. In Shona they say ‘ziva kwawakabva’ which means always remember your roots, your humble beginnings. Food for thought.
