Memories

This weekend holds many eventful dates for me. The 7th September is the ninth anniversary of my sister’s death. The 8th is Drew and I’s 41st wedding anniversary. Last year we celebrated our Ruby anniversary by isolating as Drew was going into Royal Papworth to have a Triple Bypass, which was successfully carried out on the 10th September. Some sad events, some very happy ones and some stressful ones but all of them helped by the support given by family, friends and church family.

Memories are important and I like to think that we are creating new ones as we live our daily lives. Simple acts of kindness such as a coffee and a chat or a little gift can mean so much when times are dark. It’s a reminder that you are close by.

The following is a poem written by Nick Fawcett which I find very helpful.

“When I’m feeling crushed by care,

heavy burdens hard to bear;

when my heart, oppressed by grief,

looks in vain to find relief;

when I find it hard to trust,

hopes and dreams reduced to dust;

teach me, Lord, that you are near,

never mind how things appear,

reaching out to see me through,

ever-faithful, ever-true.”

Cast all your worries on to him, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5 v 7.
