Some years ago, I was transporting an elderly Christian to a hospital appointment some miles away. As we approached a busy roundabout, he said, “And what new experience have you had of our Lord, David?” I quickly responded, “Sorry, but I am concentrating on my driving at the moment”. I knew that was an excuse, and possibly he did as well. However, I have often thought of that question as a personal challenge.
My daily Bible reading is currently based on one of my favourite Bible books, Ephesians, and the following comments are an extract relating to a few verses in chapter 2.
“The situation of the Gentiles was truly dire (verse 12.) They were –
Christ-less because they did not know there was a Saviour;
State-less because they were aliens looking on from the outside;
Friend-less because they knew nothing of God’s promises, for the “Bible” was a closed book to them;
Hope-less because they lived in fear of death with nothing piercing that gloom;
God-less because they did not know the true God
Then verse 13 is the turning point: But now in Christ Jesus God brought them near through the blood of Christ.” And thank God we can add — not only them but us as well.
The writer then continued with the resulting blessings that Christians are privileged to experience today.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for the spiritual blessings that are available to us today. AMEN
