Joan’s Jottings for 11th April

Dear Siblings in Christ,

Today, Holy Saturday is the day of the Easter Vigil, the time between the crucifixion and the resurrection, a day of darkness and watching and waiting for the light. I wonder In this pandemic time, whether this is the time with which we can most identify? We too are in the place of knowing that a new day will dawn, knowing that this time of waiting will end, but the new is not here yet, and it may not be here for some time, and wondering what exactly it will look like.  And so together, on this Holy Saturday, we wait for new life, we wait for signs of hope, we wait for history to turn and for the time to be right for a day that dawns differently than the day we are in.

Our Easter theme is Unlocking Hope as we think about how Easter reminds us that the resurrected Christ brings hope and joy to us even when we find ourselves behind closed doors feeling fearful and helpless. We will break bread together, so have a small piece of bread and a glass of water to hand. The  online worship service will be available tomorrow morning as video or audio.

Our district has produced an Easter poster for you to put up in your window. It comes in two formats – either a black and white version for you to colour, or a full-colour version.

I am keeping you in my prayers. May God’s peace be with you all,
In Christ
