Good company

My husband and I have just returned from a short visit to Northern Ireland. We went back to visit our family and to meet up with friends who were celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary. My husband was able to relate to those present at the party that he was responsible for us being there as he had introduced Suzan to Harry on the 25th February 1968. Suzan was his 15-year-old neighbour and Harry was his 17-year-old friend. Six years later they were married and remain very happy today.

They have had many trials to face as well as all the happy times. One of the latest was when Harry had a kidney transplant in April 2020 at the beginning of the Covid lockdown. Suzan had to drop Harry off at the hospital and wasn’t able to see him again until she picked him up when he was coming home. Throughout all their married life their Christian faith has remained strong and helped them to cope. The love and support of friends has also been a true blessing. This applies to the support they give to others as well as support received.

We had a most wonderful celebration on Sunday the 28th and we were able to be outside in glorious weather. We were quite concerned about the weather as it had been raining very heavily the day before. It was particularly lovely for Drew and I as we saw friends whom we haven’t seen since May 2023. Now that we are back in Felixstowe, I’m keeping busy so that I won’t miss my lifelong friends too much.

Lord, how good it is to be in your company. How wonderful it is when we share with you words, thoughts and feelings, we are in your presence, knowing you as a friend, you who are Lord of all. Amen
