I love Autumn and all the glorious colours of the leaves. What I don’t like is when the fallen leaves block drains and when they become very slippery. It’s like frost when I walk very cautiously.
The following passage is a prayer taken from the little book “You Must Be Joking Lord” by Michael Hollings and Etta Gullick. I found it recently when we were sorting out some book shelves in Trinity.
“Someone told me to take a leaf, and to go away by myself for a quarter of an hour and look at it. Silly, it sounded, but I thought I’d try, so I did.
Do you know, Lord, it was a whole new world. I don’t even know the name of the tree it came from, but after a bit it seemed like the most beautiful leaf in all the world. It came out from the stem, green and delicate. I thought it looked a little like a hand, with veins all through it. Then near the edge it was just going golden, coming back into the green so finely, I can’t quite say where the green and the gold began. It’s beautiful, Lord, and if it shows something of your mind, you must be terrific.
Thank you for nature, Lord, and thank you for the person who made me stop and look at it.”
I’m going to find a leaf and try this and in the quiet time I’ll give thanks to God for creating these wonderful things.
