Elmsett leadership team recently took the decision to set up a “Free Little Pantry” outside the church to support those in our local community who struggle to buy food for various reasons. Our local village shop and Post office has recently been forced to closed down and public transport is very limited in rural areas.

Having ordered and had the shed delivered, I was then faced with the task of assembling said shed. The box was emptied, polystyrene and cardboard disposed of in the appropriate waste bins. I was then faced with numerous pieces of wood and a box of screws, but help!! Where were the instructions?

In my eagerness to tidy up as I went along the instructions had been thrown into the recycling bin along with tissue paper and cardboard. Much to my relief the booklet was rescued from the rubbish and I could proceed with matching pieces of wood and screwing them together.

Whilst I was engrossed in the task, I heard the doors of the church open and an unfamiliar face popped his head around the door…apparently, we have a window cleaner who cleans inside and out! (How I wish he would clean my windows at home!)

We got chatting and I explained what I was attempting to make and what it would be used for. He seemed really impressed – with the idea of a “Free Little Pantry,” not my DIY skills.

We never know when we will be given the opportunity to share aspects of our faith in simple terms.

Hopefully once it has a lick of paint, we will be ready to launch our “Free Little Pantry,” and others will be able to experience faith in action.
