I’ve just found my diary entry for exactly a year ago. Must have been a bad day… There’s a quote from Psalm 90: 9-10 “All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan. Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.”
Underneath it I’ve written, “wearing down and wearing out!”. However, the next line is a verse from Isaiah 40:28, “The Lord is the Everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary.”
What a contrast! I am painfully reminded when I look in the mirror that my life is an exercise in disintegration, wearing down and wearing out until one day my body will be dust. But God lasts forever. I’m getting weaker and weaker and more weary but not God. Everything about us changes, the way we look, our priorities, our loves, our bodies – but not God. That means all the promises he made to his people in the Bible are just as true today.
So, when Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for us and one day we would be with Him, He is doing that and it will happen. This is not a dream or a fantasy. This is absolute truth – all we need to do is believe.
