Courage

At a recent Service of Healing and Wholeness a young man came into the church just as the service was about to begin. He looked nervous and I immediately went to welcome him. He explained that he had never been in a church in his entire life (I think he was about 30). He sat with me and he told me that he had felt a real compulsion to follow Jesus and had started to read a Bible (The King James version) and so far had managed Genesis, Exodus and was on Leviticus. I suggested that he might like to move to the New Testament in a more modern version of the Bible. Thankfully the Rev. Jo suggested the same.

He questioned me on my faith and how I read my Bible and prayed. This was good for me as it made me think about my belief and reminded me that God is always there for us.

The young man began to relax and joined in the remaining part of the service. At the end he was smiling and thankful that he had taken the step of walking through the door. We gave him a Bible and a few other books on Christianity from our library.

One comment he made to me was, “I’m different from you,” to which I replied, “You mean because you are young,” but he in turn said, “No, it’s because I’m wearing shorts and a sweatshirt.” I reassured him that what he was wearing didn’t matter but what was important was that he had the courage to come inside.

Thank You Lord for showing this young man the way to our door and giving us the knowledge that you are waiting for us to knock and ask for help. Thank You that we know that outward appearances are not as important as what is in our hearts.
