Christianity : Opium or Truth ?

Christianity : Opium or Truth ? Answering thoughtful objections to the Christian faith by
David Gooding and John Lennox

Myrtlefield Encounters, 2nd ed., 2014  168 pages  £6 ISBN 978 1 874 584 773

This is one of a series published by Myrtlefield House, written by two eminent scholars who are committed Christians – David Gooding and John Lennox. Gooding is a Biblical scholar and Lennox a scientist and philosopher.

It is worthy of note that their mastery of language enables them to write in a straightforward and easily accessible manner.

As the subtitle of the book suggests, the authors are concerned to talk about reasonable objections to the Christian faith and to posit fair and reasoned answers – no mean achievement in 168 pages !

The topics covered include science and its impact on faith, the plurality of religious faiths in the world today, the problem of suffering (2 chapters) and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This work would prove of significant value to individual believers who struggle with some aspects of their faith but also as a helpful source in offering answers to some of the objections often levelled at believers.
