Celebrate a Toilet!!

For those who have a delicate nature be warned this thought contains details of bodily functions you may find disturbing.  So read on at your discretion ….

Did you know that in 4 weeks’ time, on the 19th November it is National Toilet Day? There is a day for everything these days. I thought you would like to know this and join in the celebrations. Celebrate a Toilet. That’s my thought for today.

Toilet twinning, is a project I became aware of when I attended a study day in Wymondham. The first thing, I do when visiting somewhere new, is to check out the toilets. A place to hide when the study gets too much, or for a quick visit when you need to go in a hurry.  The toilets there had been twinned with Malawi, and the Ivory Coast. I knew this as they had things to read on the back of each cubical door. The certificates told you that toilets had a twin and where it was. My toilet is twinned with Latrine number 90935, Kalonga, Salima District, Central Region Malawi.  It even gives latitude and longitude co-ordinates.

To date, I have twinned four toilets and one tap. My house only has two toilets so I have borrowed Chapel toiles to make up numbers.  Having a Church family there is always an opportunity to find what you need somewhere.

In the world 1 in 4 people do not have a safe and hygienic toilet. That is 2.3 billion people. The Ivory Coast, has 3/4 of its population who do not have a Toilet!

The charity, “Toilet twinning”, has the strap line, ’one toilet at a time’. May be, one day soon, National Toilet Day will become International Toilet Day.

If you want to know more, go to https://www.toilettwinning.org/ but, be careful you may, like me, be ‘borrowing’ loo’s. So, Celebrate National Toilet Day because you have access to a flush loo. You don’t have to sing and dance about it as I will be doing, just be happy you are not digging holes with a trowel.

Deuteronomy 23:12-14 : Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself. As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement. For the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.

Prayer.
Loving Father, we thank you for inside warm bathrooms with flushing toilets, and a sink with running clean water. Keep us mindful of each other’s need, and not take for granted the facilities we have. To use them wisely to keep us comfortable and free from disease. In Jesus name we ask. knowing He can make all things Holy in your sight.. Amen
