Anchored to Jesus

Losing control is the worst of all possible experiences for any human being.

Before the onset of the pandemic, you could move about freely, you could travel, you could do more or less as you pleased.

The start of the pandemic changed all that.

You weren’t able to move about freely or travel and you weren’t free to do just as you liked.

Your freedom was severely limited.

You, just like the government of any country, lost control. It’s a demoralising thing to lose control -your sense of power is so significantly reduced that your very humanity feels diminished.

Everyone, governments and individuals, struggled to keep control when it was blatantly obvious that it was the virus which was effectively in control.

What response for the Christian?

The Boys’ Brigade (bless them) can suggest an answer.

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love.

Anchored to Jesus gives safety and security in a world which seems largely out of control.

Prayer
Thank you, Lord, that you have given Jesus to us as a secure anchor in all life’s turmoil and
uncertainty. In His name,
Amen
